For: everyone
In a busy room, it helps to show which message you are answering. Element gives you three tools:
- Reply: quotes the original message above your answer.
- Reaction: an emoji under a message, for a quick "OK" or "thanks".
- Thread: a side conversation attached to one message, so the main room stays easy to follow.
In the browser / on the computer
Move the mouse over a message. A small toolbar appears on the right.
Reply
- Click Reply (the arrow icon).
- Type your answer and send it.
React
- Click React (the smiley icon).
- Choose an emoji.
Click the same emoji again to remove your reaction.
Start or continue a thread
- Click Reply in thread.
- A panel opens on the right. Type your message and send it.
To see all threads in a room, click Threads at the top of the room.
On the phone (Element X)
- Press and hold a message.
- Tap an emoji at the top to react, or tap Reply or Reply in thread.
- Type your message and send it.
Mention someone
Type @ followed by the first letters of the name, for example @mar, and pick the person from the list. They get a notification, even if they've limited their notifications to mentions.
Good to know
- Messages in threads are encrypted just like the rest of the room.
